Photography/Cultural Tours

The purpose of these tours is to visit and explore some extremely photogenic and culturally rich areas in small groups. During these tours we view the history, the culture, and the archaeolgy and impart a knowledge of photography, its processes and techniques, to meet the needs and interests of the participants so that we return with lasting memories of the trip.

The tours will be restricted to small groups of three to eight depending upon the tour.  This will allow us to easily explore and reach areas of interest that large buses and groups cannot accommodate, and to be sufficiently flexible to make changes as we go to meet the needs and interests of the participants.  The small group also allows a lot of attention to be paid to the particular photographic challenges of each participant.  Beyond the long days, there will be restful times to enjoy the local environment, the people, and the food.

A major part of each tour is to increase the participant’s photographic capability to help assure that the images one brings back from the tour (and that will be taken in the future) are of a higher quality than they would otherwise have been.  We will explore: techniques for selecting, crafting, and improving an image; the camera its capabilities and controls; and processing and presenting the final image.  This will be accomplished through field sessions and discussions.  The approach is to purposely allow time to explore the various cultural sites, learn about the history and photograph in each locale identifying photographic opportunities, discussing the options, learning about the light and metering, and, as much as practical, to do this under optimum lighting conditions.  We will experience a diversity of light, and will sometimes work from early morning till dusk.
