Dates:  Held all year.  Please use contact for specific dates.

Workshop Fee:  $575 + tax, 3 days

This three day workshop for small groups of intermediate photographers is designed to expand the participant’s shooting capability with additional techniques, and apply these in scenic locations in New Mexico.  Such techniques will include using advanced camera controls, using the flash and options for flash shooting, macro equipment and options, alternative shooting techniques, extending the camera’s capability and processing the results in Photoshop, options for infra red photography, and an introduction to video.   Participants should be proficient in the basic use of their DSLR and shooting procedures utilizing aperture priority, shutter priority, and ISO, and also use of the histogram and the ability to modify exposure with the exposure compensation button.

Numerous methods and techniques are included in these categories permitting a significantly enlarged repertoire of image possibilities.  Continuous shooting is fine for action images to assure catching the right one, long exposures are fine for flowing water, and Live View permits extraordinary accuracy in close ups.  The camera’s flash is useful, but a formal flash is more capable, also providing fill lighting, and off camera is best.  Macro can be achieved with lenses, extension tubes, and attachments, different techniques and different prices.  Then there are the more abstract techniques involving camera and lens motion during exposure, night shooting, panning, etc.  The camera’s capability may be extended with multiple images combined in Photoshop.  These methods include panoramas, high dynamic range, increased depth of field, and time lapse photography.  Various techniques are available for doing infra red photography which must be processed in Photoshop to achieve the full impact of the image.  And with newer cameras having a video capability there are some techniques necessary to getting quality results.

This is a fun and exploratory course expanding on the participant’s existing knowledge of how to use their DSLR and venturing into new areas of capturing an image and creating quite new and different images.
